Nurses

The Coagulation Nursing Team consists of nurses from a variety of nursing backgrounds with a wealth of experience.

The main objectives of the nursing team are to deliver evidence-based care in preventing, diagnosing and treating VTE and anticoagulation management using a patient centred approach.

A large proportion of the workload comprises running the two nurse-led outpatient clinics; the warfarin clinic manages the anticoagulant therapy of approximately 200 patients per day. The DVT clinic sees patients referred from accident and emergency or general practitioners in whom a DVT is suspected. Patients are assessed, diagnosed and if necessary commenced on treatment the same day. Both clinics are dynamic and flexible, adapting constantly to the needs of patients and emerging local and national guidance.

The team also participates in local and national initiatives to promote knowledge of VTE and implementation of VTE risk assessment and thromboprophylaxis in the trust. The Coagulation Nursing Team consists of nurses from a variety of nursing backgrounds with a wealth of experience.
